Our beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and hero, Moroni A. Schwab, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on June 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Martin Fred and Rose Marie Schwab on September 17, 1923. He married Ila May Pugmire on August 4, 1948 in the Logan temple and their example of loyalty, commitment and love which lasted for almost 66 years has blessed all of our lives. Moroni grew up in Logan, Utah and was the youngest of eight children.

Moroni proudly served in the Navy (Seabees) for 3 ½ years during World War II. He will always be remembered for his athletic prowess as an All-American in three sports at Utah State. He played professional football for a year before a knee injury forced his retirement. He is respected by thousands as a professional educator, athletic coach and friend to all. He taught and coached for 38 years (Fielding High in Paris, Idaho, South Rich High at Randolph, Utah and South High in Salt Lake). He coached football, wrestling and track. He not only taught skills, technique and team work but also integrity, respect and honor. He coached like he had played and blessed many lives.

Moroni was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully all of his life. After his retirement he and his dear companion, Ila, served as missionaries in three different assignments in Hamilton, New Zealand, Kenya Nairobi, Africa and San Diego, California. They were also Ordinance Workers in the Bountiful Temple. They were able to travel throughout the world but mostly enjoyed spending the summer on their family farm in Bear Lake. They always set an example of the importance of family, hard work, unwavering faith, service and unconditional love.

Moroni was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters (Eleanor, Marie, Hilda and Pearl), his two brothers (Nephi and Alma) and two grandchildren (Lisa and Lee David). He is survived by his sister (Lily Madsen), his wife Ila, his five sons: Steve (Sheri), Ken (Ronda), Chuck (Tina), Mike (Jane) and Alan (Jarilyn), their 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren with three more expected in the next three months.

Thanks dad for the legacy you left and the inspiration you have been to us. We love you.

A viewing will be held at the St. Charles Ward in St. Charles, Idaho (Bear Lake) on Friday, June 20th from 6-8 PM and on Saturday, June 21st from 11-12:30 PM. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM., with burial at the St. Charles Cemetery. Share condolences and memories at: www.legacy.com. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the "General Temple Patron Fund" of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I was saddened in learning of the passing of Moroni.  I enjoyed working with him as life Guards at the South High School Pools.

I sound TAPS at MFH – American Legion Post # 27 has honored several of our Veterans this week and will do so through out the weekend and, next week.  Our Greatest Generation is passing at a rate of 1,000 a day.  My sympathies go out to the Family of Coach Schwab and, Betty (my wife) feels embarrassed to this day for wrecking the “Driver’s Ed” car at South High School.

It would have been an honor to have sounded TAPS for the “Coach.”
