Dale Edward Simons 1/14/31 ~ 8/23/08 Dale Edward Simons passed away Saturday, August 23rd, after a brief illness. Dale was born in Bancroft, Idaho to Ila and Edward Simons. He lived most of his life in Magna, Utah where he met and married Joann Turner. Together they had six children. He later married Delores Decker Anderson and became the loved stepfather to six more children. Dale lived a life of service to others, having served a mission to the Northwest States Mission, served as Bishop three times, counselor in a stake presidency, and a member of the Capitol Hill Kiwanis. His education included a Ph.D in Education from BYU. He loved young people and his career as an athletic coach and teacher at South High, Clayton Intermediate, East High and Horizonte schools. Dale has written a Magna Times "Serendipity Sports" column for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, Delores, as well as children and spouses, Shawn and Carolyn Simons, Suzanne and Lin Whiting, Stewart and Karen Simons, Todd and Tammy Simons, Kristina Simons and Scott and Tiffany Simons. Also step-children, Kerry & Richard Harkness, Leslie and Mike Tingey, Debra Anderson, Marci and Marty Farnsworth and Michelle Giolas, 37 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, sisters Lenna Young and Sharilyn (Gordon) Haitt, mother-in-law Edna Decker and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph, Joann Simons, grandson Josh Whiting, and stepson Mark Anderson. Funeral services will be held Friday noon at the Salt Lake Stake Center, 142 W 2nd North. Viewings will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and 10 a.m. Friday at the Stake House. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Park, 4100 S. 4335 West. Rather than sending flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
