Eudora B Zarr (Teacher) VIEW PROFILE

Eudora Josephine Billings Zarr died on July 12, 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born on August 18, 1914 in Bingham Canyon, Utah, the daughter of Dan and Kate Hyland Coakley. Following her mother's death in the 1917 Flu Epidemic, she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Elizabeth Hyland and Thomas P. Billings. She graduated from Judge Memorial High School, the University of Utah in 1931 with a BA, and Stanford University in 1937 with an M.A. She married Michael Cahir in 1944; they had a son, Tom. Michael Cahir died in 1946. Married Valois A. Zarr in 1948. He died in 1990.She taught English, journalism, and drama for 35 years at Salt Lake schools: Bryant Jr. H.S., Horace Mann Jr. H.S., South H.S., and East H.S. She was active in theatrical productions in the University's Playbox, Kingsbury Hall, and Pioneer Memorial Theaters. She was active in the American Red Cross in World War II. Following her teaching career, she was active as a volunteer with Holy Cross Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital Foundation, and the University Hospital. She was past president of Ladies of Elks, St. Joseph Villa Volunteers, St. Ambrose Altar Society, and Ladies Literary Club. She was an active member and officer of Catholic Women's League. She loved literature and gave book reviews for many organizations over the years. She was a member of the Book Reviewers Club. She was active in Catholic Organizations and a long time member of St. Ambrose Parish in Salt Lake City.

She is survived by her son, Thomas M. Zarr and his wife, Louise, and grandchildren, Amy, Tom Jr., and Melissa. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth B. Klonizos, two nieces and a nephew and their families, and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Judge Memorial High School, 650 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84102 or St. Joseph Villa, 451 Bishop Federal Lane, Salt Lake City, UT 84115.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East. A vigil service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call from 5:30-7 p.m. Committal: Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South.
