Verna N Sims (Librarian) VIEW PROFILE

Verna Neville Sims died November 2, 2001 at Federal Heights Nursing Home in Salt Lake City, UT.

She was brought into this world, at home, Christmas Eve, 1906 by her grandmother, Dr. Margaret C.S. Roberts. She was the daughter of Joseph William and Milfordetta Shipp Neville. Baptized Sept 25, 1915 by her step-grandfather, B.H. Roberts into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Educated by Salt Lake City schools and graduated from the U of U. She taught in the Salt Lake City school system for 40 years; 4th and 5th grades at Wasatch Elementary and was librarian at South High School. She was a star player on the U of U Women's basketball team. Verna married Gordon Sims Aug 22, 1927, they divorced a year later.

They had a daughter, Shirley Anne (Shan). Verna was a very gracious, well educated lady, who took good care of her family and relatives and was a good friend.

She is survived by her little brother, Sherrill W. Neville. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph W., Walter; sister, Margaret N. Winters; and daughter.

No viewing. There will be a graveside service in the Salt Lake City Cemetery (Center St.) Sat. Nov 10, 11:30 a.m.
