Harold B Stowell (Teacher) VIEW PROFILE

SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- Harold Bowman Stowell died Monday, January 6, 2003, at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was 97 years old. Mr. Stowell was an All-American basketball player during his college years at the University of Idaho at Moscow, Idaho, where he graduated in 1932. Upon graduation, he began a teaching and coaching career which was interrupted when he reported for active duty in the military during World War II. At the end of the War, he returned to teaching and coaching until his retirement in 1970. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his retirement he served two missions for the Church: The first was to the New Mexico-Arizona Mission in 1973; the second was to the Missouri Independence Visitor’s Center in 1981.

 

Harold was born in Colonial Juarez, Mexico, the 8th of nine children born to Brigham Stowell and Rhoda Bybee. He also had 16 half-brothers and sisters. Harold, his mother and his siblings came out of Mexico at the time of the Mexican Revolution (1912) and eventually settled in Idaho. He was the last surviving child of Brigham Stowell. 

 

Harold married Maxine Clara Hudson in 1936; they had five children. They were divorced in 1964. In 1978 Harold married Ethel Cole Bird; Ethel preceded him in death by four months. 

 

Harold is survived by his five children: Bruce Stowell (Heather Hyde), Kent Stowell (Francia Russell), Barbara Stowell Rasmussen (Richard), Ben Stowell (Janet Helstrom), and Laura Stowell Clark; fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 

 

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Douglas LDS Ward Chapel, located at 721 South 1200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. 

 

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the Woodruff 1st LDS Ward Chapel, 1660 - 12th St., Idaho Falls. 

 

Viewing will take place at the chapel one hour prior to the services. 

 

Harold will be buried in the Robin Cemetery at Robin, Idaho under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
