In Memory

Garry Herrman

Garry Lee Herrmann, 69, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the Omaha Veteran's Hospital. Garry was born June 30, 1943, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Larry and Evelyn (Johnson) Herrmann. His younger years were spent in Grand Island. He later relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah with his mother and sister. This is where he graduated from high school in 1962. Following graduation he enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years. He returned to Nebraska to be near his father and attended college at Hastings, Nebraska. Garry spent his adult years in Lexington, Nebraska doing different jobs. He, along with friends, was on a bowling team and golf team, this he did for years. His father had retired from the railroad which started his lifelong passion for trains. He also enjoyed coin collecting. Garry met his life's companion, Barbara Miller, and they were united in marriage on November 1, 2002, at Auburn, Nebraska. His last 26 years of work were at Electric Fixture and Supply Company in Lexington, retiring in 2006. After retirement he continued to golf. Garry always had projects he was working on along with his "Honey Do List". He loved and always bragged about his family. When he and Barbara were married he welcome Barbara's daughter, Angie, as his own, along with the grandchildren, which he adored. The kids would sit and listen to Garry's stories forever, and most of the time they were very long stories! Garry and Angie started a contest. They would give each other a "pig" they found at flea markets, etc. and they would try to outdo each other. Eventually the house began to get full of pigs and some needed to be packed away! Garry was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma on November 8, 2008. Through the years of treatment his body wore down and this last year has been a real struggle. Last summer he spent a lot of nice days fishing with his brother-in-law, Brad. His family and friends were a wonderful support system for us and for that "Thank You" each of you. We know there will be tears now that Garry is gone. He was very loved and his memory will live on forever. Garry is survived by his wife: Barbara Herrmann of Lexington, Nebraska; special daughter; Angela Miller of Gothenburg, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Mitch & Becky Morrison, Justin Morrison, Cassie Steele and her companion, Alberto, Sarah Steele, Kristen Morris, Sam Schutz, Kayla Miller, Chestney Miller; three great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Isaac and Sarinha; sister, Barbara Herrmann of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Keith Herrmann of Moab, Utah; Nieces, Lorrie (Marc) Macy and their children, Jacob & Amanda of Aledo, Texas; and, Kim (Matt) Wick and daughter, Isabelle of Denver, Colorado. Garry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother's long-time companion, Lorie Bliven; and, granddaughter, Madison Amia. The Family honored Garry's wishes that his body be cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Graveside Inurnment Service will be Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Victor Diaz officiating, as well as Military Honors.
